Length of stay and rules
- Stay up to 30 days, counted from 00:00 on the day after entry.
- Allowed purposes: Tourism, Business & trade, Visits, Visiting relatives, Medical treatment, Exhibitions & conventions, Sports. Work and study are not covered.
- You may stay anywhere in Hainan province. To stay longer or travel to other parts of mainland China, apply to the Hainan public security exit-entry administration before your 30 days expire.
- No advance application is required — simply present your valid passport at immigration.

Transiting China to a third country or region? Citizens of 54 countries can enter through Haikou Meilan or Sanya Phoenix airport and stay up to 240 hours (10 days), traveling across Hainan and the other permitted provinces. You need a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region.

Do I need a visa for Hainan?

Can I travel from Hainan to Beijing or Shanghai?
Not under this policy — visa-free entry covers Hainan province only. To visit other parts of China, apply for a visa at the exit-entry administration in Hainan, or use a separate policy that fits your route (e.g. the 240-hour transit policy).
