We have been to Hainan in every season, and if we could only pick one month, it would be November. Here is why — with the numbers, the crowds and the packing list we actually used.
Why November wins the weather
November is the first month of Hainan's dry season: daytime temperatures settle around 22–28°C, the typhoon season is over, and humidity finally drops. The sea off Yalong Bay and Clear Water Bay turns that flat turquoise you see in brochures — we swam every day without a wetsuit. Evenings need one light layer, nothing more.
Crowds and prices: the shoulder-month sweet spot
November sits between the October Golden Week rush and the December holiday wave. Resorts are maybe 30–40% cheaper than February, and you can still book good tables at seafood restaurants without a queue. We found Sanya beachfront rooms under $100 that triple in price by late January.
What we packed (and what we did not need)
Light clothes, sunscreen, swimwear, one thin jacket for evenings — that was it. No rain gear: November averages very little rain. One thing we did use daily: a power bank, because we were out from breakfast to night market.
How we would spend a week
Start in Haikou for two days of old-town food (dad tea afternoons included), take the high-speed rail down the east coast through Wenchang and Wanning, and finish with three days on Sanya's beaches. The full plan lives in our island loop itinerary.

November in Hainan is the rare combination of perfect weather, fair prices and light crowds. If you can travel off-peak, this is the month.
