Ledong Travel Guide: Where Hainan’s Last Rainforest Meets the Salt Wind

We didn’t plan to fall for Ledong. It happened slowly, the way mist curls around a mountain pass. The drive from Ledong town to the park’s main gate took us about 40 minutes, winding past rubber plantations and small villages where roosters seemed to own the road. Once inside, we measured the air at 22°C while the coast sweltered at 31°C — that’s the first thing you notice. The second is the sound. Not silence, but a layered orchestra of insects, unseen birds, and the occasional crack of a branch far above. We walked the Mingfeng Valley trail for two hours and saw more shades of green than we thought existed. One detail we’ll never forget: the park’s ancient trees are so tall that when the wind moves their crowns, you feel the ground tremble through your boots.
